Jimmy the Robot

My Mechanical Design Class at Olin College was tasked with the detailed design for Jimmy the Robot, a project envisioned by Brian David Johnson, Intel Corporation's chief futurist.

Jimmy the Robot is an educational platform designed to further the futuristic concept of having a robot in every home. I worked in a team of four to take Jimmy from raw ID surfaces to a finished drawing package that can be produced at home with 3D printer. Jimmy is a bipedal static walker and is able to balance through an entire stride. Working on Jimmy involved a static analysis of the loading cases involved, motor selection, linkage and geartrain design, and design for manufacturability.
